The star has given the entirety of his £25k honor winnings to the trust for venues, which works to save the UK's grassroots music venues.

He was awarded the prize on October 16 as his third album People Watching was declared the best record of the past year.

He has decided to give the cash to the MVT, in appreciation of the vital role small stages had in his initial steps.

"I wouldn't be doing my current career if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the region, and further afield, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these venues have ceased operations – approximately one-sixth of the total UK scene.

In the last year, major artists including the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its initiatives to help venues survive, by adding a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Fender also participated, raising in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to support thirty-eight local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation supported locations that were dealing with possible closure due to difficulties caused by flooding, blazes and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and noise complaints.

Additional spaces were granted monetary aid in upgrading infrastructure and technical equipment that helped performers and fans.

"The notion that funds from performances in large arenas helps the local stages, where it all starts for performers like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has said.

They are one example who contributed their Mercury Prize prize money to charity

He is among several artists to donate his Mercury Prize winnings to good deeds.

Back when they earned the trophy in the mid-90s for their record the album, frontman Jarvis Cocker declared that the group would donate their cash to the non-profit the charity.

That year, artist Ms Dynamite split her award among several organizations, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"Additionally, I contributed a grand to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked updated gear," she explained to a publication.

Two years ago, they gave their prize money to the community center that developed their group, as well as other local music groups.

And the 1994 recipients M People contributed their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was diagnosed the condition.

"Winning was sufficient," remarked artist Heather Small. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't require the extra, because we had the main prize. So our success impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the trust shared it had protected a couple of grassroots venues in that region, by transferring them to community ownership.

The first in that area and the second in Bristol were bought under the community ownership program, which is funded by Arts Council England and music fans who purchase "shares" in the venues.
